Although LincsHeli does not give beginner flying tuition we do offer advice and during the past few weeks have had numerous people approach us AFTER they have been and bought something they thought was a ‘good deal’ only to find out that it is going to cost a lot more than they paid in the first place to get their ‘good deal’ airborne!

If you are thinking about getting into heli’s please drop us a line or speak to a club about what’s involved in flying RC heli’s.

Our advice is buy once buy right!!!! In the world of RC heli’s ARTF (almost ready to fly) are not almost ready to fly!!! We have spent many hours with these so called artf heli’s and have yet to fly one out of the box!!!!

Engine choice is simple..... buy an OS!
Radio gear...... You are better buying a mid range Futaba, JR or a  Spektrum 2.4ghz. Think of it as an investment

Gyro....To get the best out of any gyro it requires a dedicated tail servo so we recommend a Futaba 401 and 9254 servo or a CSM 560 V4 with 9254. Either one will set you back about £150.00 ukp but it is money well spent and will make learning easier.

Second hand...... We would advise you avoid second hand as we have yet to see a ‘bargain’ that does not need another £200-300  to make it airworthy.

Unfortunately local model shops will try to sell you what they think is a good deal. Ask whoever is trying to sell you equipment ‘do they fly heli’s themselves?’  Go to a specialist heli shop (see our links page).

The other major factor is time....If you can’t put plenty of flying time in every week then it will be a long drawn out process to learn the basics. You need to be flying at least one day a week minimum to even have a hope of learning.  We have had people come and watch and think that looks easy!!! While flying Heli’s is not impossible it is certainly not easy and you are not going to learn to fly over night!.

Crashes.....When you crash and you will crash!!! A 30 size heli’s is going to cost you in the region of £100 ukp to fix.....Are you prepared for this? Heli’ flying is by no means a ‘cheap’ hobby.

So you have read this far, let’s sum it up. To have any success with this hobby then the following are a must!.....

Time, dedication, patience, a nice bank manager, oh yeah a very understanding partner!!!!!

LincsHeli does not sell heli’s, radios, engines etc so the info we give is completely unbiased!!!
