The JR 5000T was JR’s first gyro with heading hold. This was installed in an X-Cell 60 99se and paired with a JR8700g fast tail servo.
We found this to be a very solid gyro and held well in all sorts of manuvers which made it ideal for the sports flyer, however the very high price tag for the gyro and servo combination especially when CSM where making just as good gyros with a much smaller price tag.
On some days drift seemed to set in but we couldn’t work out why or what triggered it apart from temperature variations. It was never serious amounts of drift but it got annoying as you could have two days the same and one day it would drift other days it wouldn’t.
Given the price tag of this gyro we were a little disappointed with it.
Verdict: price tag to high as there are other gyros on the market that worked as well if not better. 7/10. Would have scored higher if there was no drift issue.
The 5000T is a discontinued product and has been superceded by the 6000T and now the 7000T.
