The Raptor 60 is a recent addition to the fleet. Midland Helicopters had them on special off and with a nearly new engine and all the radio gear sat on the shelf it made sense to buy one.
The Raptor 60 is quite a heavy heli’ in this day and age but that does not detract from it’s flying characteristics. Metal side frames and a driven tail are just some of the really nice features. We also believe that the Raptors are one of the better looking helicopters on the market.
It has a really solid feel in the air and is very, very stable especially with the standard kit paddles.
We used a Zimmerman muffler with the OS 61 SXH WC, an OS #8 plug and Coolpower 30 fuel.
With any large heli’ quality servos are a must. We opted for a JR 8411 for pitch, a DS 640 fast tail servo and JR 8231’s on cyclics and throttle. A 4000 Mah NIMH receiver battery is used to meet the current draw of the servos. The gyro used is a CSM micro SL 560.
Over all the flight testing has been very good. A solid heli’ that flies very predictable and is stable. This model would be ideal if you wanted to go against the grain and learn to fly with a 60 class. Just remember the parts cost a little more. Like the 30 the 60 can be upgraded to a 90 class if you so desire.
On a personal note we have found this Raptor a little to stable for our liking but that is just us. So we have decided to personalise this one and as the weather has been pretty bad (well it is January). We have decided to make this Raptor into a bit of a project. So thanks to Matt at Midland helicopters for helping spend some money :-)
This is what the 60 looks like now
