The next stage in the learning curve is to move the helicopter around a bit. Keeping the tail pointing towards you apply a little bit of left (or right) cyclic. The helicopter will now move in the direction you pushed the cyclic stick.

To stop the movement you need to counteract the momentum by pushing the cyclic stick in the opposite direction briefly before returning it to centre.

You should aim to do this to the left and the to the right of yourself. This will stop you becoming handed (favouring one side more than the other).

Once you are comfortable moving it left to right and right to left it is time to move it forwards and backwards.

As above with the heli to one side of you give it a gentle nudge forwards (push the cyclic stick forward) and like above release, followed by a little bit of back cyclic to stop the momentum.

If at any point it feels like it is going wrong DON’T PANIC just land gently and try again.

Moving on.

Time to move the tail so the heli is side on. A bit more care is required here as we don’t want the heli going nose in just yet!!!! Gentle use of the tail is required. So you push the left stick on your TX to the left or the right. If at any point it gets uncomfortable just swing the tail back to tail in hover.

Figure of eight

What we are going to attempt here is to put together all of the things you have read about so far. If you have thoughts or have removed your training undercarriage then leave it or put it back on just in case you need to make a landing because you have become disorientated it will help to avoid any damage.

The video below will help you see what you are trying to achieve.

Square figure of eight.

This is similar to the figure of eight however, for the first time the heli is going to be nose in.
Take your time and the escape manoeuvre (if needed)is to get the heli into a tail in hover.
The purpose of this exercise is to prepare you for your first full circuit.

The Circuit

Once you have mastered the circuit then aeros are not far away.  Height is a good idea for this....Don’t be fooled into thinking your heli’ is safer closer to the ground. You should be at a reasonable height but not a dot in the sky. Don’t try for perfection just concentrate on an oval shape and keep the speed sensible. The video below will give you an idea of what you should be looking to achieve.

We have used a Raptor 30 in these videos as chances are you will be using a smaller heli’ in the beginning.
