Blades are one item that can have a huge effect on how your heli’ flies. We often get asked “aren’t blades all the same?” Our answer is a resounding NO.
Firstly there are 3 blade material types, wood, glass fibre and carbon fibre. Then there are symmetrical and semi symmetrical. Blade weight and length will vary this alone will give a different ‘feel’ to how a heli’ flies.
As a beginner who is still trying to hover then stick with the kit blades....Chances are they are made out of wood and will not be overly expensive to replace if you have a crash etc.
Glass blades are next and tend to look at them when you are flying circuits and starting to get a bit more adventurous with your flying.
Carbon blades we would advise once you have mastered some mild aeros and looking to start into more aggressive flying. Yes they do come with a higher price tag but you get what you pay for.
If you want to learn with carbon blades from the start then go for it but remember the cost of the blades comes into play when you start having mishaps and when learning to hover you will probably not notice any advantage.
Yes our heli’s do have carbon blades but we have been doing this for a long time and our hovers don’t tend to last for more than a few seconds before we are tearing up the skies.
There are quite a few blade manufacturers out there so we will just look at what we have used so far.
The links to the left will take you to the blades and the helicopters we use them or have used them on.
