The GY401 is a very popular gyro. It is very easy to set up, holds the tail very well and comes as a gyro on it’s own or as a package with a S9254 fast tail servo.
Ours are currently fitted in a Raptor 30 & a Raptor 60.
The one in the 30 is paired with an S9254 tail servo and so far has performed exceptionally well. The Raptor 60 has just had a 401 installed and paired with an Align DS 640. The 60 has not been flown with the 401 yet so no verdict yet.
We have found that regardless what people say about gyro setup it is best to get the mechanical setup of the tail right. We always set the 401 up in NON Heading Hold mode. That way if the tail does not drift in the hover then it is going to be even better and the gyro/servo does not have to work so hard in Heading Hold mode .
The 401 is also a favourite with the T-Rex 450 fliers.
Prices (due to the exchange rates) have risen recently so you would be looking to pay around £110* for the gyro on it’s own and around £170* for the combo with S9254 servo.
